Outsourcing Soars as Businesses Cut Costs

May 24th, 2008

Today’s businesses are looking for ways to cut their costs without hurting their business. One way, that has grown phenomenally, is to outsource much of the work.

Outsourcing is nothing new. Families outsource dinner when they order pizza. Car manufacturers outsource when they purchase parts premade rather than making them at their own facilities. What is new is outsourcing of customer service and clerical/administrative duties.

Administrative and clerical duties are generally outsourced by using a virtual assistant, or VA. There’s no need to meet your VA, in fact, most VAs have clients they have never met, but who are valued and provided with excellent care. You simply provide them with their tasks via instant messaging, fax, email, postal service or phone, and then they do the work and provide you with a report.

Now that businesses are watching their bottom lines, they are discovering ways to utilize virtual assistants in their staff. Some of the benefits are that virtual assistants bill “by the minute,” so businesses never pay for time spent on breaks, or on other clients’ projects. A virtual assistant can expand or contract the amount of time spent on a particular client project, enabling businesses to save labor dollars during slower periods. VAs also work from their home offices, using their own office equipment, which saves businesses thousands of dollars from the start.

Outsourcing has always been with us. With the growth of the Internet and web-based applications that enable VAs to access client files without being in the office, there is no reason not to hire a virtual assistant for administrative needs, and many compelling reasons to find out more.

Donna Vazquez is the owner of Busy Bee Virtual Assistance, located in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She is available to speak to groups about the advantages of virtual assistance and virtual staffing, both from the business owner’s and contractor’s point of view. She is a mother of five children, a music director for her church, and a member of the world’s largest women’s organization. Contact her today to find out how she can help you.
